Purpose: This study investigates the interconnection between sustainable project management (SPM) and project risk management. Additionally, it explores the correlation between SPM and transformational leadership behaviours, utilizing managers’ transformational leadership as a mediating variable and decision-making quality as a moderating variable in the relationship between SPM and project risk management. Method: This study gathered data from 247 employees in the Saudi Arabian electronics industry. The collected data was analysed using the STATA software and a structural equation modelling (SEM) approach to achieve the research objectives. Findings: The study’s results indicate a significant relationship between sustainable project management, project risk management, and transformational leadership behaviours. Furthermore, the findings support the proposed hypotheses, suggesting that the relationship between sustainable project management and project risk management is moderated by decision-making quality and mediated by managers’ transformational leadership behaviours. Originality/ Implications: This study adds to the existing knowledge on sustainable project management and its relevance to electronics project management. It highlights the importance of understanding regulatory and mediating mechanisms for improving project sustainability and performance. The results emphasize the significance of incorporating sustainable project management strategies and transformational leadership for sustainable development in organizations.
