Abstract

Through lessons learned from the management of the conception and construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva, this article shows that a project management framework that is deliverable-oriented, DSM- and EVM-based, and developed in a collaborative managerial approach where all key contributors—so-called project engineers at CERN—are deeply involved, could undoubtedly set the foundation for a Lean project management framework.

    Dr. Christian Braesch is currently Associate Professor at IAE Savoie Mont-Blanc. He received a PHD in Automation andComputer Science from the Université de Franche-Comté. He has actively participated in several international and nationalR&D Projects : ArchWare (IST-2001-32360), DRE (France, CNRS) SYMSIPROD (France, Rhône-Alpes), ISPRI-PLM (France, Rhône-Alpes), DRDF (France, Rhône-Alpes). His main research interest concerns enterprise modeling and more precisely modeling ofinformation system in the context of SMEs. Currently, he is working on the definition of modeling framework for implementingan efficient Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in SMEs.
